Prestigious Dance Company wins bid for kinaesthetic compliance series

Learning styles are still going strong as one Australian organisation doubles down, investing in a kinaesthetic compliance ‘dance break’ series.

We care deeply about our people and damn it, if some of them learn best by dancing it out, then I’m not going to be the local minister from Footloose that outlaws it,” said a HR representative tapping their foot to “I’m a survivor”.

We were invited in to watch rehearsals take place. A ‘Privacy’ module was being tested by a pilot group of flexible and rhythmically unchallenged staff. A song by The Police starts playing and, a five, six, seven, eight…

“You know everyone thinks ‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police is a love song, but it's actually about surveillance and invasion of privacy, so it’s perfect,” says our HR representative. “Of course it took some convincing with the legal team, but we got there in the end.”

We spoke to one of the staff from the pilot group about their experience. “Look, I can ‘whip’ and ‘nae nae’ alright, it was this or sit through an hour of eLearning, at least this has got a better soundtrack, although isn’t this song about stalking?”

When asked what they learned about Privacy in the workplace, they replied, “not a f&*^ing thing, but I can do the ‘stanky leg’ now.”

Early results show a real divide about the appropriateness of ‘Every Breath you Take’ and an increase in employees signing up to Tik Tok to participate in dance challenges. Prestigious Sydney Dance Company is just grateful for funding for the arts.

How can you mix it up?

Compliance is one of the areas in learning that can really make or break people’s perceptions of digital learning - unfortunately it’s also where most businesses ‘phone it in’. There are many reasons for this, often it’s budget, or the fact that it’s mandatory learning, so people have to do anyway. Honestly though, there are ways to make compliance learning more meaningful, invest a little time if you don’t have the cash, be creative with your thinking!
